The Microsoft Authenticator app helps you sign in to your accounts using two-step verification. It's an alternative to using a text or phone call for multifactor authentication.

You can use the app to:
- Sign in to your accounts more securely
- Access additional Microsoft apps and services without logging into each
- Sign in if you forget your password
- Monitor accounts that multiple users monitor, such as departmental email accounts
You can download the app from the App Store or Google Play. To set up the app, you can:
- Open the app on your phone
- Tap the + > Work or School Account
- Use your phone to scan the QR square on your computer screen
You can back up and recover account credentials in the app by:
- Opening the app on your mobile device
- Selecting Begin recovery
- Signing in to your recovery account using the personal Microsoft account you used during the backup process
